Backstage at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Maisonette 1977

I had a blast running around the crowded backstage at Maisonette's Fall 2011 presentation during Fashion Week. There were throngs of amazonian models, burly cameramen, in your face photographers, super fashionable interviewers, and crazed hair and makeup artists.

Talk about pressure. But the designer, Jane Ibrahim, kept her cool while multi-tasking the whole time. I was also impressed with the hardworking hair and makeup artists who had about two dozen models ready to perfection in a blink of an eye.

I shot along side some really nice photographers, one of them being Gerardo Somoza, who's clients include Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang... He even invited me to his office after Fashion Week to chat!

The Fall/Winter 2011 collection was inspired by Chris Nolan's film Inception. These three looks were my favorite from the collection. Bold and edgy but also feminine and playful.

And for the ladies, I sneaked inside Mik Cire's backstage and snapped some photos of the male models. =)

The presentation's theme was "The Urban Escapist." I must say that the set was visually dazzling. Models were scattered on staggered white platforms. It reminded me of a Byzantine structure unfolded like origami paper.

Congrats to Jane and Tom on a successful show and thank you for the amaaaazing experience!

Can you tell I like yellow flowers? I like to have them around the apartment during the cold winter. Hence they end up in my photos.

I'm so excited for this weekend. The Mercedes Benz Fashion week is here! I will be shooting at the Maisonette 1977 presentation and going backstage (thanks Jane)! The very talented designer was named as a "must-see" show by WSJ's Speakeasy along side Richard Chai, Jill Stuart, Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors...

A New Beginning

Welcome to my blog everyone! With the start of a New Year, I’ve decided to turn a new leaf.

About me: I moved to New York City seven years ago. My plan was to go to law school and return home to Los Angeles to start my career as an attorney. However, things did not work out according to my plan. I fell in love with this city and its people. I married my best friend and now we have two boys. They're pretty awesome.

I actually have them to blame for my passion for photography. It all began because I wanted to photograph and create as many memories of our time together before having to go back to my long hours as an attorney. Without even realizing it, what started out as a hobby completely swept me off my feet… and ever since I haven’t been the same.

Here's what's next for me: Judy Pak Photography. A new business I started consisting of people inviting me to portray their lives and capture their memories. I am shooting lifestyle and engagement sessions but would LOVE to do weddings as well. I will be posting it all here along with travel and everyday photography.

As my past seven years in New York City has proved, our lives flash before our eyes. So in order to challenge my artistic skills and commitment to photography, I decided to take on a personal assignment, "Project 52," a year-long venture with no rules or restrictions. Just one photo a week to commemorate my photographic journey.

Please stop by often! Comments and questions are welcomed and encouraged! Special thanks to my hubs, Julie H., Christine L., Henry M., Anna C., Nina of Love and Lemonade and Maria M. for helping me get started.
